When you lose touch with yourself
It can happen gradually. You put other people first, adapt to what’s expected, and keep going because things need to get done. Over time, your own needs become harder to recognise.
You might find yourself overthinking simple decisions, saying yes when you mean no, or looking to others for reassurance. Things you once enjoyed may feel flat. You may feel restless, resentful or tired without quite understanding why.
Sometimes you know what everyone else wants, but struggle to answer, What do I want?
When you lose that connection with yourself, it can affect your relationships, your work and your confidence. Familiar patterns keep repeating because you’re making choices out of habit, obligation or fear.
Recalibration begins with noticing what feels out of step and giving yourself permission to respond differently.

How it shows up at work
You might take on more than you have room for, struggle to speak up, or feel you have to keep proving your value. Criticism stays with you, and decisions become harder because you’re worried about getting them wrong.
You may stay in a role you’ve outgrown, undercharge for your work, or work harder while feeling less satisfied.

How it shows up in relationships
You might keep the peace at your own expense, agree to things you don’t want, or feel responsible for everyone else’s happiness. Asking for what you need can feel uncomfortable, so you stay quiet and hope someone will notice.
Over time, this can become resentment, distance or loneliness, even when you’re together. You may find yourself wondering whether people know you, or simply know the version of you that makes life easier for them.
Reconnecting with yourself helps you recognise what you need, communicate it more clearly, and make choices you feel comfortable standing behind.
